The Indian government on Monday proposed in Parliament the repeal in the Constitution of article 370, which grants special status to Indian Kashmir, which could trigger a political and social storm in the region.
After a meeting early in the morning of the Cabinet, the Interior Minister, Amit Shah, addressed the Indian Parliament to announce what many expected: the intention to repeal article 370 that grants special status to the region.
"From the moment the president gives consent (to the law) and is published in the official Gazette, none of the provisions of article 370 will be applicable," Shah said in Parliament almost inaudibly among the continuous shouts of the opposition.
