The Ministry of Health has also notified 10,875 new infections, which is why Spain exceeds the barrier of 10,000 cases for the first time since February 19. The total number of people infected since the beginning of the pandemic, more than a year ago, is 3,347,512.

The communities that have reported the highest increases are Catalonia, with 2,626 new infected, Madrid (2,431), Andalusia (2,173), Euskadi (783) and Castilla y León (435).

In addition, 149 new deaths have been reported, bringing the total death toll to 76,328.

With regard to hospitalizations, ICUs maintain a similar occupation to yesterday, with 20.48%, and the total number of COVID patients in hospitals stands at 9,359, slightly below those notified on Thursday.

These new data come in the midst of an accusation between the central government and the Community of Madrid about the management of the pandemic. At a press conference in Dakar (Senegal) this Friday, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, asked Isabel Díaz Ayuso for “seriousness and responsibility” in managing the pandemic, hours after having questioned in a conversation with journalistsAccording to the EFE agency, the numbers of infections and deaths offered by the Madrid government, in the context of the pre-campaign of the May 4 elections.

Ayuso had replied minutes later. “I am the president of the 179 municipalities of the Community of Madrid and Sánchez is the president of the 17 autonomous communities, then he is the one who cannot make these accusations and I think he should apologize for this,” he had assured. “The Spanish proverb is broad and the thief believes that everyone is of his condition when the Prime Minister thinks or dares to say that the Madrid health authorities are lying in the figures of the pandemic. And I say this because he is the one who he is lying constantly, “added the Madrid president.
