The incidence points to a new maximum after three days of fall but the hospital pressure leaves the 'very high' risk

The incidence rises again to 3,418.46 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a new maximum since the pandemic began, after three days of continuous decline. The rate began its fall on Tuesday after rising for more than two months, although the average number of daily infections continues to be above 100,000. However, since the 6th was a holiday and fewer positives were diagnosed than the rest of the working days, this new increase may respond to a statistical effect.

The Ministry of Health has recorded 141,095 new positives. Since Monday, almost a million people infected with the coronavirus have been confirmed, bringing the total number of infections since the pandemic began in the country to 8,975,458.

The hospital pressure comes out of the 'very high' risk, according to the criteria of the COVID Health Light, this is because the percentage of occupancy of beds by patients with coronavirus drops from 15% slightly, to 14.96%. On the other hand, the pressure on the ucis remains practically the same, at 23.25%.

In addition, the average number of daily deaths exceeds 150 deaths, and this Friday there are 142 new deaths from COVID-19, according to the latest update of the Ministry's report. 91,741 people have died since the epidemiological crisis began. This week there have been 982 deaths, the highest number since March 2021.

By age groups, people under 11 years of age, those between 12 and 19 years old, and those between 30 and 49 years old were once again above 4,000 incidence cases. On the other hand, those over 80 years of age also register a rise, which is close to 2,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. But these figures could vary in the coming days and continue the downward trend that was recorded at the beginning of the week.

As for the autonomous communities: Aragón, with 5,730 incidence cases; Navarra, with 5,528, and Murcia, with 5,372 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, are the regions that lead in terms of incidence. Catalonia has registered 43,980 new infections. Comunitat Valenciana, 22,062, and Madrid, 12,772 new positives. Those three are the regions reporting the greatest increase in those infected.

Almost 90% of those over 60 years of age already have the booster dose

89.5% of people over 60 years of age already have the booster dose against COVID-19. In total, there are already more than 19 million people who have the additional anti-COVID puncture.

This Thursday, the Ministry of Health reported that more than half of the children between the ages of 5 and 11, the last to join the immunization strategy, had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. That percentage rises this Friday to 51.8%.

On the other hand, 82.4% of the general population have at least one dose, while 80.7% have the complete anti-COVID regimen.

Questions and answers about the booster dose of the anti-COVID vaccine

The data confirms that it is the vaccines, in their complete schedule, that are containing the onslaught of the sixth wave in hospitals: "A vaccinated person between 60 and 79 years of age is 16 times less likely to be hospitalized, 29 times less likely to go to an ICU and 20 times less likely to die," said the Minister of Health at a press conference yesterday.

But there is also a loss of vaccine protection against mild disease and infection over time.
