The Columbus House it is proposed to unmask the role of power through the normalization of violence in a cycle of lectures and performance actions, which will take place, led by the multidisciplinary creator and cultural manager of the Canary Islands, Rosa Mesa, on November 14, 19, 20 and 26.
From the visibility of sexual abuse in childhood to the sublimation of violence and its status quo in art, through the normalized violence in society through power and coercion or aggressions in the health field that connect health and gender, this cycle aims, according to its coordinator, to reveal "the position of dominance that traditionally it is maintained through a culture of education and fear as a way of maintaining patriarchy and other archaic structures, "says Mesa.
For the creator "the culture of violence is deeply rooted in our society and it is difficult to consider it as an avoidable evil. This project that will take place in the Columbus House organized by the aforementioned center belonging to the network of museums of the Ministry of Culture of the Gran Canaria Council, tries to link the idea of dominance to issues as important as gender or class, and raises a conscious review of a system that perpetuates errors with the purpose of designing mechanisms that help eradicate this domain culture. "
The journalist, feminist activist and responsible for training, awareness and advocacy of the Daniela Oblatas ProgramBegoña Vera; the photographer and member of the Association Canarias Mujeres de la Live Communication, Ana Gironés; the creator involved in the art of action, Analía Beltrán; the former Senior Professor of Medical Psychology at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, María Asunción González de Chávez; the surgeon and specialist in Occupational Medicine, Catherine De Wilde Calero and the researcher and professor in the area of Contemporary History of the Department of Historical Sciences of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Javier Marquez, as well as the performers Rosa Mesa and Pedro Déniz, make up the program of this cycle that will take place at the Casa de Colón, with free admission, always at 7:30 p.m. performers, and at 8:00 p.m. conferences.
The program will begin on November 14, at 8:00 p.m., with the intervention of Begoña Vera called Under the carpet, which will be accompanied by an exhibition by Ana Gironés. The collaborative project of both is focused on making sexual abuse of children visible.
