The president of the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH), Wilfredo Cerrato, announced today that the agency will analyze in mid-2019 the possibility of modifying the monetary policy rate.
"We look at the decisions made by the United States, where the federal reserve for the fourth time in the year raised the monetary policy rate, Costa Rica made two decisions to raise the monetary policy rate so far this year and (Republic) Dominican Republic He did it, only Guatemala and Honduras have not made any movement this year, "Cerrato explained.
Speaking to Radio HRN, of Tegucigalpa, the official said that inflation in Honduras at the end of 2018 will be "below 5 percent."
He pointed out that this inflation range was influenced by fuel prices, since the annual average of the barrel stood at 65 dollars.
In another issue, the head of the Central Bank said that as of December 13, Honduras has placed 2,051 million lempiras (83.7 million dollars) in a middle class housing program.
He also noted that as of December 18, international reserves totaled 4,736 million dollars, equivalent to 4.8 months of imports.
"When there is a greater accumulation of international reserves, the sliding of the currency is much slower and it shows that in 21 days of December there has been a variation of only three cents," explained the president of the Central Bank of Honduras.
