The 'handling' strike complicates the return of Holy Week in airports - La Provincia

The strike called by the unions UGT and USO in the companies that provide services ofhandlingin Spanish airports threatens to complicate the end of theEaster. Ábalos referred in this way not only to this strike ofhandling, but also those of Air Nostrum pilots and Renfe machinists, also announced for Easter.

A few weeks ago, the signing of the new labor agreement seemed close. However, according to Orlando Robledano, Secretary of the Air Sector of the Regional Executive Committee for Services for Mobility and Consumption (SMC) of UGT-Canarias, at the last moment the employers chose to backtrack on the conditions of subrogation of the workers.

Article 73 of the document on which the parties have been working includes the inviolability of the status of employees -salarial and of any other nature- in the event that a company ceases its activity in a service ofhandlingdetermined and becomes another that deals with it. Operators who stay the new arrival can not charge less or see their breaks reduced or any other advantage they had been enjoying.

Aceata defends that this circumstance is only mandatory from the moment of signing the contract, with what in the opinion of the trade unionists, the surrogates would be left in a temporary limbo in which their salaries could be depleted. The representatives of the workers defend that the conditions are maintained at all times after the agreement is signed. For unions, this point is fundamental, since in the sector there is a high level of turnover and generation of new companies that absorb existing ones, even within the same company.

In addition, in the event that any of the operators decide to judicialize their relationship with the dismissed company, their continuity would not be guaranteed in the same terms in which they had been performing their work.

Against the general perception, the work ofhandlingthey are not only those that have to do with the management of the luggage, but they extend to all the services that receive passengers and planes on land for a correct operation of the flights.
