The Gran Canaria Big Band will be one of the highlights of the International Festival of Cancun, Mexico. This prestigious festival has wanted to have the Gran Canaria formation to hold three concerts in the most prominent spaces where this festival takes place.
In this way the Gran Canaria Big Band is confirmed as one of the most important big bands in our country, being the first to visit the Mexican country. They will develop two different programs, one of clear cut swing, in which they will present the repertoire recorded in their last album that is dedicated to two of the big arrangers for Big Band of the swing era that invaded New York in the 50s / 60s, Neal Hefti Y Sammy Nestico. On the other hand, the festival commissioned the director of the Gran Canaria Big Band, Sebastián Gil, a repertoire that paid homage to Mexico in the key of sound Big Band. For this, Gil has created the show Latin Mexico, which will be presented on October 19 at the great Teatro de Cancún. There they will offer a mestizo repertoire where huapangos, danzones, mambos, boleros,? .. will sound, ending with a beautiful Sorondongo, from our land, as a gift of the brilliant grancanarian formation to the Mexican people.
The concerts will be on October 19, 29 and 21 at the Teatro de Cancún, Puerto Morelos and the Theater of the City of Playa del Carmen.
This tour has been possible thanks to the International Music Festival of Cancun and the support provided by the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria and the cultural mobility program of the Canary Islands Government, Canarias Crea.
The Gran Canaria Big Band has become one of the most international groups of our archipelago. With their 21 years of life they have acquired an enviable curriculum taking them to play in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Mexico, for public television Norway; and being the first Spanish big band to be published on a North American music label, Summit Jazz Records. He has 5 albums and has in his training the most complete jazz musicians in our region. Several are the artists who have collaborated with this formation, such as Paquito D'Rivera, Sole Giménez, Perico Sambeat, Jamie Davis, Deborah Carter, Braulio, Germán López, etc.
The International Music Festival of Cancun celebrates its sixth edition becoming one of the most prestigious festivals in the country. With the proposed program shows that it is an eclectic festival, rich in content, that this edition highlights the participation of Ibero-American musicians as an important part of the cultural wealth that predominates in Cancun. Throughout 10 days will play percussion, wood, strings and many metals, you will hear Classical Music, Pop, Rock, Swing, Jazz and Salsa among other rhythms. The party will conclude with feminine protagonism, with an exquisite concert that will allow to hear the voice of Luz Casal, not before having the leading role in the splendid Canarian formation, Gran Canaria Big Band.
