The Governor of Puerto Rico dispenses with his collaborators in a controversial chat



The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, announced that he will dispense with all the collaborators that appear in the chat in which members of his administration criticize other officials and use foul language, including Secretary of State Luis Rivera, who resigned .

The publication this Saturday of the totality of the almost 900 pages of the chat supposed a convulsion that culminates days of filtrations that have caused an unprecedented institutional crisis, although Rosselló maintains that it will not resign.

"I want to announce that I have made the decision to immediately dispense with the collaboration of all those close to my administration who are part of the chat that was revealed today in its entirety," Rosselló said in a statement.

"After analyzing the content of the communications, it is impossible for me and for those who expect the highest ethical and behavioral standards to continue with this controversy that distracts and hinders the important public management that lies ahead," the Chief Executive said. .

Rosselló confirmed that Christian Sobrino, representative of the Executive before the Fiscal Oversight Board, informed him of his decision to leave the positions he holds to begin an orderly transition that should end in the coming days.

"I have already started a consultation with his possible successors from early in the morning and I will be in a position to announce it in the next few hours," he added.

He also announced that the Secretary of State, Luis Rivera Marín, submitted his resignation.

"Aware that it is not possible to maintain the current environment, I have communicated to all other public officials involved in the chat that I will have to dispense equally from their services and / or their advice," he said.

"However, for the content of the communications and after evaluating their contributions to them, I have asked the lawyer Ricardo Llerandi to remain in his position as secretary of the Interior and the lawyer Anthony Maceira, as secretary of Public Affairs", qualifies the governor.

In addition, he said that he reiterates that at this precise moment "my entire cabinet is under evaluation, as soon as this process is concluded I will be making new announcements."

"This is a very painful situation for me, as governor, as a human being and as a Puerto Rican, but I recognize that there is no other way out and that there is no forgiveness that is worth my part without taking corrections and without clear signs of an amendment." , he maintained.

He concluded by saying that he was elected by the people and will continue "the mission that was granted to me, now more than ever."

Sobrino, meanwhile, announced his resignation through his account on Twitter social network where he said that during the "morning today I communicated to the Governor my resignation from my positions in the Government of Puerto Rico and the orderly transition of these functions."

In turn, Carlos Bermúdez, communication and public relations advisor of the Executive, through a note, announced that he will not continue advising the governor or the representative of Puerto Rico in Washington, Jenniffer González.

"Yesterday I informed the resident commissioner and today in the morning I reiterated that, to avoid distractions, I have determined not to continue advising you, as I have done with the Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, whom I had previously notified to you. interest in concentrating and dedicating myself fully to other projects, "he said.

The 889 pages of the controversial chat were revealed by the Center for Investigative Journalism after obtaining the full document from an anonymous source.

The messages begin in December 2018 and arrive until the end of January 2019.

Media from the Caribbean island publish links to which the document can be accessed, which together with the arrests last Wednesday of several former officials and government contractors of Ricardo Rossello have caused an unprecedented crisis.
