The Government will decide on the mission in Iraq in consensus with the allies

After the death of the Iranian General Qasem Soleimaini a US attack on the Spanish contingent in Iraq it has strengthened its security and sources say that security measures will be maximum.

For its part, NATO announced Saturday that while his continuing mission training activities are temporarily suspended, a decision that has also taken the German Government.

Armed Forces Spanish are present in Iraq with about 500 soldiers within an international coalition against jihadist terrorism led by the United States. It also has another fortnight as part of the NATO training mission.

They are divided between Baghdad --in a complex next to the aeropuerto--, Taji (to the north of the capital) and Besmayah (45 kilometers to the southeast, where the majority).

According to sources from the Ministry of Defense, the acting minister, Margarita Robles, spoke Saturday with the colonel in charge of the contingent in Besmayah and with the colonel of the NATO mission and both have transmitted that they are taking the appropriate measures to ensure the security of the quotas.

Minister Robles has also been in contact during the last hours with the contingent deployed in Lebanon, where around 600 troops participate in the UN mission to monitor the cessation of hostilities on the border with Israel.
