Rules out the opening of an internal investigation to purge responsibilities for being incompatible with criminal procedure

The Government of the Canary Islands has confirmed that it will take part in the complaint filed by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office in the Masks case and will appear in the proceedings. However, what he has not yet decided is whether he will do so in a damaged capacity or defending the direction of the Canary Health Service.

"We will appear according to what the legal services tell us, which is the most appropriate way," he said.
spokesman Julio Perez at a press conference after the Governing Council. “What we want is to be part of claiming those four million. That is our position and the administration's lawyers will tell us what procedure to follow."

The also Minister of Public Administration, Security and Justice insisted that he sees it as "premature" to adopt a position when
the criminal procedure has not yet been initiated –as well as preparing the brief or appointing the lawyer to take the case–, despite the fact that the decision will acquire great relevance at the political level.

On the other hand, the Government of the Canary Islands rules out initiating any type of internal investigation, since it ensures that, even if it had been carried out previously, it would have been paralyzed due to the impossibility of opening a criminal and an administrative procedure in parallel.

The priority is to recover the money

There would be no incompatibility, in principle, with the agreements on economic matters, so it is expected that the procedure of the Tax Agency will continue, which is the priority of the Executive to recover the money.

The number of payment requirements against the merchant
RR7 United SLawarded the contract for the acquisition of medical equipment by emergency route,
amounts to a tena after several "unsuccessful" months.

The cost of interest and proceedings add one million more to the debt of the company with the autonomous community after, in addition, it has declared its economic insolvency. “We are attentive to this matter and the pertinent measures will be taken,” the spokesman clarified.

  • Compensation.
The Treasury claims five million from the mercantile RR7 United by way of enforcement, one million more than the contract due to interest.

  • Experience.
The SCS put before the need to obtain medical supplies abroad, especially in the Chinese market, and not so much to be a company dedicated to the sector.

  • Damage.
RR7's account to the National Police points to a possible scam of which he would have been a victim by the suppliers.

Blas Trujillo will appear in Parliament

Finally, Pérez announced that the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, will appear again in the regional chamber at his own request, probably next Wednesday, to account for the new events. It is the second time that the counselor will respond to the parliamentary groups, which after learning of the complaint filed by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, have raised their voices unanimously
demanding responsibilities.

Both the opposition and the groups that support the Pact of the Flowers have called for “transparency” in the information and forceful measures to recover what has been advanced, without ruling out a parliamentary investigation commission if necessary, although they doubt its effectiveness. In turn, the groups have expressed "respect" for Justice to be allowed to work.

In any case, the procedure will still have a "long journey", which is why the Executive defends the presumption of innocence of both the director of the Canary Islands Health Service,
Conrad Dominguez as well as the one who was the general director of Economic Resources of this organization, sued for administrative prevarication and influence peddling. On the other hand, Anticorruption has also filed a complaint against
Rayco Ruben Gonzalez –sole administrator of RR7 United SL– for aggravated fraud and money laundering.
