The Government reorients the productive sectors to self-supply material

The Government has reoriented the activities of some industrial sectors to manufacture medical devices with which to face the coronavirus and thus be able to self-supply without depending on third countries.

"We have to focus on national own production that allows us not to depend on any external country and to be able to supply ourselves," said the minister, spokesman, at a press conference after the extraordinary Council of Ministers that has approved measures to reinforce the confinement of the citizens.

Montero has specified that, for example, the textile industry is producing gowns and masks, that of alcohol and chemistry will focus on making hand gels, and that of automobiles and aeronautics, will manufacture components for mechanical or assisted ventilation respirators.

These sectors are reorienting their production "temporarily", according to the minister, who added that the Executive hopes that "in the coming days we can attend a national production of masks, respirators, and even quick kits (for detection of the coronavirus) "

Montero has emphasized that the problem of finding sanitary material does not lie in the management capacity of the Goiberno or of the autonomous communities, but in the fact that there is a shortage of that material throughout the world because the countries are left with national production.
