The area of Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands has applied a profound structural transformation in the public company Canarias Cultura en Red, started a year and a half ago, which is now called the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development, in order to give greater impetus to cultural policy and make it more accessible to citizens. The new work formulas revolve around three fundamental axes, oriented towards social and community development, the right to culture, and its contribution to economic development, forming a new management philosophy that is also identified with a modification of the name of this public tool .
With this change of name, it is intended that both citizens and the professional sector of culture identify this new form of work carried out by this body in the management of active policies at the regional level. The renovation carried out allows the public company to play a more decisive role when it comes to implementing innovative policies in terms of cultural development and it constitutes another step in the search for a new trend in cultural management and planning between the Government, the rest of the public institutions and the professional sector.
The Deputy Minister of Culture, Juan Márquez, affirms that “the birth of the new Institute of Culture is the culmination of a process of structural transformation that allows new forms of management with which The Government of the Canary Islands not only sponsors cultural activities, but also leads, designs and executes new lines of action in matters of cultural development. With this we align the new structures to the challenges of the 2030 Agenda and its objectives for sustainable development, placing citizenship and the right to culture at the center of our management ”.
Within the framework of this new formula, and in order to bring culture closer to citizens, additional offices will be opened at street level in central areas of both capitals, to which part of the personnel involved in those capitals will be transferred. projects that require greater proximity to the public and professionals in this sector.

The new organizational structure is oriented so that all the actions carried out by the ICDC are based on the three aforementioned three strategic axes, that is, that its objective goes far beyond holding an event or a cultural activity, but also contributes to the development social, community and economic of the Canary Islands from the cultural point of view, with active policies applied with these criteria.
For this, six Work Units have been created in which the different programs and public calls are grouped: Performing Arts, Music, Plastic and Visual Arts, Book and Reading Promotion, Cultural Heritage Y Canary Islands Film, They will also work in a coordinated manner. This change has also led to the reinforcement of the use of ICTs in all the processes of support to the sector, which, among other things, has allowed a total of 16 public calls to be carried out in recent months in a competitive competition regime.
It is a new strategic configuration of culture, directing cultural action from an inclusive and more democratic perspective, prioritizing equal access to culture, active participation, attention and visibility of all groups, particularly the most vulnerable and at risk of exclusion. All this under the premise of absolute transparency in all the processes that are developed.
At the same time, emphasis is placed on the promotion of a diverse culture and the recognition of all the agents of the public space that participate in the whole process of cultural creation: production, exhibition, distribution and reception. In addition, regarding the sector and its economic development, it seeks to increase its capacity to contribute and innovate, seeking synergies with training and employment policies, innovation and internationalization.
