The Secretary of State for Energy, José Domínguez Abascal, said today that nine of the fourteen coal-fired power stations in Spain will close in June 2020, since they have not made the necessary investments to continue, and that the remaining five could do so. between 2020 and 2025.
Dominguez Abascal, in a conference organized by Esade in Madrid, has indicated that of those fourteen plants, which should have made the investments required by the European regulations on denitrification and desulfurization in order to continue with their activity, only five have done so.
These five plants, among which are those of As Pontes, in A Coruña, Litoral, in Almeria, and Los Barrios, in Cádiz, close to the coast, will close later, although they have not specified when, but they could cease in their activity between 2020 and 2025.
Among the plants whose owners have requested their closure, are the Anllares, in Leon, and not in the Compostilla, in León, investments have been made by Endesa and Iberdrola and requested the closure of Lada, in Asturias , and Velilla in Palencia, while EDP has carried out the modernization of its facilities in Aboño, in Asturias.
