The Government authorizes 2.5 million euros to fight against climate change

The Government has authorized fourteen voluntary contributions to international organizations for an amount of 2,532,220 euros for the fight against climate change, the preservation of biodiversity and forestry matters and environmental legislation in the European Union.

The grants have been approved this Tuesday in Minister council, at the proposal of the Ministry for Ecological Transition (Miteco), and among the entities to which they are destined are the Adaptation Fund of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will receive one million euros; the International Union for Conservation of Nature, to which 294,261 Swiss francs are earmarked, or the European Forest Genetic Resources Program, which receives a contribution of 16,200 euros.

What’s more, the Fund for supplementary activities of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will receive 500,000 euros; 123,480 euros will go to the Mediterranean Cooperation Center, of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, in Malaga (IUCN MÁLAGA) and to the Convention of Wetlands of International Importance, especially as habitats for Aquatic Birds (RAMSAR Convention), 105,038 Swiss francs will go.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement establish Spain’s commitment to supporting developing countries in the area of ​​climate change and financing and supporting the instruments to implement it are a key issue in the international agreements that our country has ratified.
