The Foreign Press Association of Hollywood, organizer of the Golden Globes, started a campaign a few years ago internationalization, which has now arrived for the first time Argentina on the occasion of International Independent Film Festival of Buenos Aires (Bafici), which ends on Sunday. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) held Thursday night a reception in the gardens of the Enrique Larreta Spanish Art Museum which was attended by Argentinean cinema figures, such as director Luis Puenzo, winner of the Golden Globe and the 1986 Oscar for the best foreign film by The official story.
The master of ceremonies was Gabriel Lerman, the only Argentine member of the HFPA and collaborator of this newspaper in Los Angeles, where he has been bringing readers of The vanguard exclusive interviews with the main Hollywood figures. Lerman explained the unknown philanthropic facet of the association, which each year donates millions of dollars -product of the sale of television rights to the annual gala of its awards- to non-profit entities or contributes money to preserve the cinematographic heritage. The HFPA consists of just 90 members, who at the beginning of each year have the privilege of choosing the winners at the Golden Globes, awards that serve as a guide for the Oscars, which take place a few weeks later.
The presentation of the association within the Bafici framework, a festival that gains more prestige each year and one of the most stable international competitions in Latin America, such as Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), Mar del Plata (Argentina) or Guadalajara (Mexico) , follows the trail of other similar events organized in Cannes or Venice to publicize their other activities, as well as the organization of the Golden Globes.
