The Gran Canaria Big Band, a formation led by trumpeter Sebastián Gil, will celebrate tomorrow Friday from the stage of the Guiniguada Theater, in the capital of Gran Canaria, the seventh edition of the project Author Arrangements, which on this occasion has a repertoire of Canarian-style jazz compositions from different islands and generations on the program.
The concert will be at 8:30 p.m., with no public in the venue due to the sanitary restrictions of the Covid-19, and can be followed in streaming and with free access from the Guiniguada profile on the Facebook social network.
This project in which the SGAE Foundation participates, starts from the idea of converting songs by Canarian authors into Big Band sound. In this edition, pieces composed by Canarian artists such as Polo Ortí, Atcheré, Alba Gil, Claudio Marrero, Chano Gil, Yul Ballesteros, Rayko León and Juan Manuel Alemán have been selected, up to a total of ten compositions that make up the repertoire to be interpreted.
In this concert, the Gran Canaria Big Band will pay tribute to Manguí, trumpeter and leader of the Canarian Latin jazz group Atcheré, who recently passed away, from which one of his most well-known songs has been arranged, Songo Pa’Helenia ‘.
This tribute to Canarian jazz creation will mix generations, such as the arrangements that have been made for the first time to songs by one of the leading figures in the Canary Islands, Polo Ortí; or those of “a talented representative of the most recent generations, Alba Gil”, of whom a piece will be performed.
