The European Union has for some time taken firm steps towards the goal of reducing greenhouse gases in the continent in the medium term and try to minimize the environmental damage caused by carbon dioxide emissions. Governments have listened to community guidelines and have developed strategies that are not to everyone's taste. For example, restrictions on traffic in the center of Madrid are sufficient. And the capital is not the only one that has banned cars from entering. These measures have hit the automotive sector, one of the most important in Spain in terms of turnover and employment, and those who form claim that there is no technological capacity to assume the speed imposed by the administration. But that does not mean that the efforts of the manufacturers are not aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of vehicles. The round table "Challenges of the automotive industry in the future environment of connected, autonomous and electrified mobility" that was held last Friday at the Madrid headquarters of the newspaper LA RAZÓN revolved around this issue. David Moneo, director of Motortec, participated in the table; José Luis Bravo, CEO of ASER Aftermarket Automotive; Ignacio Naranjo, director of After Market South Europe of Schaeffler; María Luisa Soria, Director of Institutional Relations and Innovation at Sernauto; Fernando Moreno, Business Development Manager for Mobility and Smart Cities at Bosch Spain; and Antonio Osuna, senior business director Iberia Insurance & Leasing of GT Motive. All of them will be present at the Motortec Automechanika fair, which will be held from tomorrow until Saturday at Ifema.
The first issue that the speakers wanted to dismantle is the political discourse that "demonizes" diesel vehicles. "There is a good part of the information that is at least biased. Encompassing the entire motorization system in a single group is somewhat unfair. The feasibility of the combustion system is necessary and essential, "said Naranjo, who also recalled that some objectives are unviable in terms of raw materials, production capacity and technological possibilities. In addition, he wanted to point out that there are no "clean" vehicles: "Anyone is polluting if we take into account their production and energy cycle. In fact, the emissions in your life of an electric vehicle are half that of a gasoline. " Because you have to take into account, in addition to the manufacturing and the useful life, its recycling.
Therefore, he demanded the need to create a legislative framework with "fair" measures. "What about renovating the current park? There are no campaigns for it "recalled Moneo. In Spain, cars have an average of 12.5 years. In Europe it is only seven. In line with this issue, Bravo wanted to send a message to the political powers. "Zero emissions and zero deaths is the goal, we are working on it, but the administration does not have to tell us how technology should be to achieve it." "You can not demonize technologies that are currently efficient and that will facilitate this transition," Soria said. Moreno agreed and indicated that measures are being taken with a view to the future "based on the cars that are currently circulating."

With an eye on the future, Osuna listed three factors that will mark the future of the industry: electrification, mobility and automotization. Soria coincided in part with these challenges, but recalled that the main objective is decarbonization: "The objective of reducing carbon dioxide emissions is so ambitious that it is necessary to make all the components of the vehicle more efficient so that the final consumption of the vehicle is less, "he said, adding that brands seek to reduce the weight of the parts that make up the vehicle to be more efficient in the use of resources. In addition, electrification is reaching transport means that had no traction (caravans, bicycles and even baby strollers) "to recover the braking energy, store it and use it for other uses, as well as to improve security," Moreno said. .
"The training of technicians will change, as will the tooling in the workshops. All these advances must be made without losing sight of the fact that, in the end, the objective of the automotive industry is to offer solutions to mobility. "For me the basis of everything is connectivity," said Moreno. "Currently, 60% of the population lives in cities and in the future the percentage will be higher. Mobility should respond to this great challenge with the electrification of vehicles, their technological improvement and the shared vehicle, "he said. In addition, this is compounded by the aging of the population, "and there the autonomous vehicle has much to say." "The world of mobility is going to go further because people are moving more and more. And that is going to live in the automotive sector, "Moneo added.
David Moneo was optimistic about the success of the fair and was pleased to have achieved the goal of "diversifying" with the presence of representatives of dealers, workshops or service stations. "If we focus on the numbers, we have grown by 7% compared to the 2017 edition and for the first time since 2005, the most successful in the history of Motortec, we surpassed the 4,000 square meters of exhibition divided into seven pavilions and with 1,250 represented brands, some of them international, which gives an idea of the health of the event, "he said. Moreover, according to his director, large companies have been left out due to lack of space. "It is no longer a fair where you are going to buy and sell, it is a place where you will live an experience, to see where the future is," concluded Bravo.
