The first semester of 2018 there were 46,590 deaths more than births in Spain - The Province


Throughout the first six months of 2018 226,384 people died in Spain and 179,794 were born, that is, the vegetative growth - the difference between births and deaths - continues negative trend at -46,590 people.

It thus exceeds that of the same period of the previous year (-32.132), according to the provisional data of the Statistics of the Population Movement, published by the INE this Tuesday December 11.

The number of births continues to decline for the tenth consecutive year, only interrupted this trend in 2014. Specifically, from January to July 2018, compared to the same months of 2017, births have been reduced by 5.8% , what translates into 11,168 babies less. The number of births of foreign mothers accounted for 20% of the total compared to 18.8% of the previous year.

Meanwhile, in this period, 226,384 people died in Spain, 2.1% more than in the first half of 2017. This increase was mainly due to the high mortality registered in the month of January.
