The first lady of Brazil, Michelle Bolsonaro, underwent an operation of cosmetic surgery on the chest on Thursday, to change the prostheses, and in the abdomen, in a private hospital in Brasilia, official and medical sources reported.
"The first lady, Michelle Bolsonaro, went through an aesthetic surgical procedure," sources from the Brazilian Presidency confirmed.
The medical team of the DF Star hospital, where Michelle Bolsonaro is hospitalized, reported that the procedure consisted of "breast prosthesis change" related to "encapsulation" and "abdominal diastasis closure" due to "two pregnancies."
"The procedure was successful and the patient is well. The forecast is that she will be discharged in the next 48 hours," added the bulletin released by the exclusive clinic, which belongs to the private group Red D'Or Sao Luiz.
The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, visited his wife on Thursday night and, after leaving the hospital, told reporters that she was "well", with "good humor" and without pain.
For his part, the doctor Régis Ramos explained that the surgery was to change the silicone prostheses of the breasts and perform a series of corrections in order to approximate the abdomen muscle and treat an umbilical hernia.
Ramos also stressed that the operation lasted for four and a half hours and that it was resolved with "quite success."
Bolsonaro also reported that in February he will have to undergo new medical exams because of a "dilation" in the abdominal region, where in the last year and a half he has suffered four operations as a result of the stab he received in September 2018 during a electoral rally
Last week, the Brazilian president traveled to a Navy base in Aratu, in the state of Bahia (northeast), to take advantage of a few days off, although he did so without his wife because of that operation.
The ultra-rightist leader planned to spend New Year's parties there, but anticipated his return to Brasilia to receive 2020 with his family at the Palacio de la Alvorada, his official residence in Brazil.
One of Michelle Bolsonaro's last public appearances was in the traditional Christmas message of the head of state, broadcast on radio and television on December 24.
Dressed in a T-shirt in which the word "Jesus" could be read, the first lady wished "a blessed Christmas" and a "happy 2020" to all Brazilians.
"May we together, with much love and dedication, build a better Brazil: fairer, more inclusive and more supportive for all," he said.
Jair Bolsonaro, captain of the Army reserve, completed a year in power on the eve, after his victory in the October 2018 elections, in which the candidate of the Workers Party (PT), Fernando Haddad, was imposed.
