The first documentary of the San Silvestre races

The energy company EDP presented yesterday Tuesday December 17 in Madrid “San Silvestre: the energy of the people ”, the first documentary about this sporting and social event, directed by Rodrigo Moro. The piece is starring relevant personalities from the history of these careers such as Antonio Sabugueiro, founder of the largest San Silvestre in Spain; Carmen Valero, best Spanish athlete of the 20th century and habitual participant of this type of tests; Eliud Kipchoge, current holder of the marathon world record and runner of San Silvestre Vallecana last year; as well as Paco Roncero, cook and lover of this popular phenomenon; among others.

This documentary is a tribute to these races, which arrived in our country in 1961, specifically to the town of Galdakao in the Basque Country. Since that time, new tests have been added exponentially every year, to reach a total of 1,251 San Silvestre races that are held today.

Rodrigo Moro, director of the documentary states: “The San Silvestres have a lot of history behind, it has been incredible to see how our protagonists have given everything without receiving anything in return, more than personal satisfaction, thanks to them the phenomenon of the San Silvestre has become what it is today in Our country and all over the world. Being able to tell a story of such magnitude has been a real challenge. "

The energy company has delivered honorary awards and has opened the call for the "I EDP Awards The Energy of San Silvestre" open to careers and participants of the Spanish San Silvestres.

During the event, the effort and dedication of some of the people who have contributed most to the success of the San Silvestre races in Spain have been recognized, granting the EDP La Energía de San Silvestre Honorary Awards to:
