The final of the Copa del Rey will be played next Saturday May 25 at the Benito Villamarín stadium in Seville, according to the board of directors of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The board chose the venue for the first time after calling a tender for its award last December and before the quarterfinals are resolved this week with the return matches Valencia-Getafe, Barcelona-Sevilla, Girona-Real Madrid and Betis- Spanish.
The bases of the contest established that the candidates had to make an economic offer to be received by the RFEF and offer a stadium with a minimum capacity of 45,000 seated people, next to an emblematic space of the city of between 5,000 and 10,000 square meters to celebrate events playful and cultural within the so-called "Football Festival".
They also had to guarantee a sufficient hotel capacity to accommodate traveling fans, either in the city itself or at a reasonable distance and at reasonable prices – not higher than the hotel promotional rate on weekends and without requiring a minimum stay -, according to the RFEF.
Another requirement for the candidatures was to propose mechanisms that reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions and allow environmental sustainability; avoid assemblies between 22:00 and 07:00 hours to avoid generating noise in public areas and present a plan to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility in public facilities and transport.
The last ten Cup finals were played in Madrid, three times in the Vicente Calderón (2012, 2016 and 2017), one in the Santiago Bernabéu (2013) and another in the Wanda Metropolitano (2018), three in Valencia in Mestalla (2009 , 2011 and 2014) and two in Barcelona at the Camp Nou (2010 and 2015).
It will be the first time that the Betis coliseum hosts the final of the k.o. tournament, which was not resolved in Seville since Zaragoza took the title against Celta in 2001, in a match played at the La Cartuja stadium.
The board of directors also ratified on Monday that the final of the Copa de la Reina will be played on Saturday, May 11 at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes in Granada, as the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, said on the 17th.
Likewise, the final of the Copa del Rey of futsal, at the request of clubs immersed in the quarterfinals, will be decided on January 30.
