The Film Festival and its Mecas market open the registration period

The International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will celebrate its twenty-second edition from April 22 to May 1, taking advantage of a regulation that incorporates a new competitive section: Panorama España.

In this way, the section that is characterized by the tracking of new authors in the field of Spanish cinema joins other competitive sections such as Traditional Official Short Films and Official Feature Films, as well as Canarias Cinema, in addition to the one that was incorporated last year when the twentieth edition was held: Banda Apart, focused on auteur cinema with a marked experimental character.

As stated in the regulations published on, the registration period for all competitive sections will open next Monday, November 8 and anyone who wishes to register works can do so until February 11, 2022 through the web Regarding the contest itself, the regulations also make it compulsory to premiere in Spain for the official sections of long and short films. A requirement that will not be necessary in the case of Banda Apart and Panorama España, as long as the works have been published in other festivals. However, in this case, it is specified that they have not had a premiere in commercial theaters and platforms. Something that, on the contrary, is allowed in the Canarias Cinema section where no conditions are contemplated with respect to premieres.

In the prizes section, keep the amounts. In the case of the Official Section, they remain set at 20,000 euros for the best feature film, 10,000 for the Silver Lady Harimaguada, 2,500 euros for the best short film and 2,000 euros will go to the Audience Award. Nor do the Canarias Cinema awards vary: 3,500 euros will go to the feature film that wins the Richard Leacock Prize and 2,000 euros for the short film that wins the category. Banda Apart will continue to be recognized with 5,000 euros.
