Ximo Puig confirms that the outbreaks registered "especially in the El Toro area" prevent a fire that has devastated more than 20,000 hectares from being considered stabilized

Good news Sunday in the Bejís fire. Ximo Puig has confirmed, after a new meeting with those responsible for the security operation, that the residents of Teresa, Sacañet and the villages of Andilla can now return to their homes after having been evicted due to the terrifying advance of the flames during this week . The president of the Generalitat has confirmed that the fire is following a “favorable evolution” and that only the reproductions, especially those of El Toro, prevent the Bejís fire from being considered stabilized“. On Saturday, the residents of Bejís and Torás returned to their homes and the population of Alcublas was deconfined.

Puig has confirmed that «all people will be able to return from any municipality or district to their home. The situation of the Bejís fire is favorable within a very unfavorable day in terms of weather. The entire Valencian Community is today on high alert and a fire can occur anywhere due to the situation we are experiencing. That is why we want extreme caution. Despite the fact that people can return home, it is not the right time to travel along these roads, which are still in the midst of intense work by firefighters and would make it difficult to act in the face of some outbreaks that are taking place, especially in the El Toro area, where there are very hot spots. Therefore, despite the fact that the fire is in the process of stabilization, it cannot yet be considered stabilized. Hopefully between today and tomorrow it can be considered stabilized«.

On the way to stabilization

The president of the Generalitat, in an appearance after the meeting at the Advanced Command Post, wanted to thank the "enormous" work of the firefighters, the Civil Guard, the UME "which is doing an extraordinary job." Some aerial means of the State have already been withdrawn, but Puig has stressed that “we must exercise extreme caution, especially in those areas where there is a lot of heat, because there are some outbreaks. This is the state of the matter, a moderate optimism«.

The UME will maintain almost all the units until Sunday night, while several state planes have already left the area. "We are on the way to stabilization," he reiterated, "but the fire is still active. It is time to return to normality with caution. The perimeter is maintained and then we will see within the perimeter what has been burned and what has not. We have seen that within Bejís there are 'islands' that have not burned».

For this Sunday the adverse weather can complicate the extinction of the fire, with wind and very high temperatures, although from the Advanced Command Post they remain optimistic and believe that throughout the day the fire could be controlled. The perimeter of the two major fires, Vall d'Ebo and Bejís, will be affected by this rise in temperatures, particularly in Vall d'Ebo, with active warnings from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

During the day, firefighters have located several hot spots and there have been some outbreaks, especially in the Toro area.

During the night, six units of Forest Firefighters of the Generalitat, six fire engines, ️2 special firefighter units for forest fires of the Diputación de Castellón, firefighters of the City Council of Castellón and Alicante, 4 squads of forest firefighters of the Government of Aragón and 40 members of the UME.

From the first hour, 4 more Alicante Fire Departments and numerous aerial means have been incorporated: ️11 from the Generalitat, 9 from the Government of Spain, one from the Government of Aragon and 3 ground firefighting crews and 3 fire engines have also been incorporated.

For its part, the Vall d'Ebo fire presents a "favorable evolution" after a night in which there has been "plenty of humidity in the area and the land resources that have been there tonight have been able to consolidate the areas," as explained the Emergency Service 112.

During the night, two units of Forest Firefighters of the Generalitat and two fire engines worked, as well as two firefighters from Alicante. Since first thing in the morning, 4 more fire departments from the Diputación de Alicante have been incorporated.

Return of the evacuated neighbors

The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, pointed out this Saturday afternoon that the situation continues "advancing in the normalization" of the dreadful Bejís fire, although the day has been complicated from the meteorological point of view and has caused outbreaks, also in the Vall d'Ebo.

This has delayed the decision to consider it controlled in this last place, so for now it remains stabilized. “Tonight (in reference to Saturday night) the temperatures will drop and we will take the opportunity to work in that direction. This Sunday we can talk about taking the situation under control. In the case of Bejís, the situation is still at an earlier stage, due to the virulence of some outbreaks.

With regard to the Bejís fire, he has indicated that outbreaks have occurred due to the heat and wind. "Hopefully it can be controlled and tomorrow at ten o'clock we will decide on Teresa and Sacañet, we can decide if they can be opened, but it continues to be active even with stabilization, in some places with flame and very high temperature areas." In the same situation are the villages of Andilla, also evicted.

This afternoon the west wind blew from half past four in the afternoon and there have been nine regrowths. The worst have occurred in El Toro and Andilla. The wind speed has been lower than expected, between 20 and 25 kilometers per hour, the same as expected tomorrow from three to seven in the afternoon. "It will be the most critical moment, both in the Vall d'Ebo and in Bejís."

In any case, he pointed out that the "resolution of the fire is progressing positively." In this Sunday's operation, the air resources will be lowered and will remain in 23 planes and helicopters, while the land resources will remain the same. On the night from Saturday to Sunday, 400 people will work on the device.

«The idea is that this Sunday, the rest of the neighbors can return to their homes. We want to have a prudent attitude, we cannot expose ourselves to any kind of danger », he specified.

Regarding tonight's work, he considered that the weather will be favorable as temperatures drop, but in a "front of 130 kilometers, any movement can affect it."
