Forum for Democracy (FVD), led by far-right and Europhobe Thierry Baudet, has taken the majority in the Dutch Senate to the party of Prime Minister Mark Rutte, and has broken with the same seats as the ruling party, according to published results this Thursday of the provincial elections, just two months from the European elections.

With 93% of the count, the Dutch government coalition – formed by the liberal VVD, Christian Democratic Call (CDA), Democrats 66 and Christian Union – loses the majority because it only adds 31 of the 75 seats in the Senate, which has the final say for the approval of the laws.

It is the first time since the political reforms of 1917 that a newly arrived party like the FVD (2016) is larger than the three established tendencies (confessional, liberal and social democratic).
