The ex-deputy of the PP Jaime Ignacio del Burgo has asked by letter to the State's Attorney General, María José Segarra, to take steps in favor of the release of former minister and former president Eduardo Zaplana Valencia, suffering from leukemia and immersed in an "unfair, illegal and inhumane. "
"If we lived in other times, we would not hesitate to think that it is a ruthless form of torture that seeks the collapse of the defendant so that, in order to get out of this humiliating and toxic situation, he ends up confessing what he did not do", points out Del Burgo, who between 2004 and 2008 was deputy spokesperson for the popular group in Congress, of which Zaplana was a spokesperson.
The former minister was transferred on December 18 to the La Fe Hospital in Valencia from Picassent prison (Valencia) when his health worsened after seven months in preventive detention for his alleged involvement in crimes of bribery, money laundering, embezzlement and prevarication .
After the Spanish Society of Hematology has endorsed that he remains hospitalized or under home medical control given his "serious life risk", Del Burgo asks Segarra to urge the head of the court of instruction number 8 of Valencia to order the Temporary prison of Zaplana in his house, with the surveillance measures he deems necessary.
He also asks that, if necessary, initiate legal actions "before the stubbornness" of the judge, since, he says, "it could be constitutive of crime by putting the former minister at risk of death".
Del Burgo, who was a deputy from 1989 to 2008 and previously held a seat in the Senate, explains to Segarra that he has already sent a letter to the judge, without getting an answer.
