The candidate to succeed Juan Rosell shared this idea yesterday in his speech at the opening of a congress on collective restoration. "It does not make much sense that when there is an accident at work, a company can not do alcoholism or drug testing to workers when we all do them on the street right now if we take a car," he said.

In his opinion, this is a particularly important issue in the field of hospitality and should be part of its agenda with the objective "not to bother anyone, but to improve the service."

Charge against absenteeism

Garamendi – also president of the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (Cepyme) – also attacked the high rate of absenteeism among employees with partial contracts and against the "delinquency" of the Public Administration.

According to the businessman there is a "very high absenteeism" in some economic sectors, including restoration, a topic that "is not often talked about because it is not salable". According to his data, the absenteeism among this type of workers with a partial contract is around 10-15% in the case of the hotel trade, a figure that has been described as "real outrage" and which has been urged to fight to gain competitiveness.

Garamendi criticized, also, the operation of the public contests in Spain. Garamendi also stressed that the collective restoration is a sector that can boast that there is equality between men and women: "It is another thing that you can show with pride, because in other sectors it does not occur.
