The candidate to preside over the CEOE management, Antonio Garamendi, and today vice-president of the organization of businessmen demands that the companies can do breathalyzer tests and drug controls to the workers involved in work accidents. Garamendi's proposal comes while the loss ratio continues unchecked: between January and August there were 399,312 accidents with sick leave, 3.6% more than those registered in the same period of 2017, according to data from the Ministry of Labor.
The candidate to succeed Juan Rosell shared this idea yesterday in his speech at the opening of a congress on collective restoration. "It does not make much sense that when there is an accident at work, a company can not do alcoholism or drug testing to workers when we all do them on the street right now if we take a car," he said.
In his opinion, this is a particularly important issue in the field of hospitality and should be part of its agenda with the objective "not to bother anyone, but to improve the service."
Charge against absenteeism
Garamendi – also president of the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (Cepyme) – also attacked the high rate of absenteeism among employees with partial contracts and against the "delinquency" of the Public Administration.
According to the businessman there is a "very high absenteeism" in some economic sectors, including restoration, a topic that "is not often talked about because it is not salable". "People who work in partial hours is curious to have to go to the doctor at that time and not for the rest of the day that has it free," criticized the aspiring president of the employers.
According to his data, the absenteeism among this type of workers with a partial contract is around 10-15% in the case of the hotel trade, a figure that has been described as "real outrage" and which has been urged to fight to gain competitiveness.
According a study by Randstad Research based on data from the INE, corresponding to the third quarter of 2017, of average in Spain the level of absenteeism not justified means the loss of "1.3% of the hours agreed in the referred period". If medical losses are taken into account, the loss reaches "4.3% of the agreed hours".
Garamendi criticized, also, the operation of the public contests in Spain. "One of the great dramas that companies live is to see how public tenders are only set at the price, there should be many more quality criteria," claimed the employer leader, who has accused the public administration of delaying payments for your services.
"Companies are there to make money and not to lend it to the public sector, it is another of the big problems of collectivities, delinquency, since there is a law that is not met and absolutely nothing happens," he said.
Garamendi also stressed that the collective restoration is a sector that can boast that there is equality between men and women: "It is another thing that you can show with pride, because in other sectors it does not occur. Easy sector It seems sometimes that when there are more women it is because it is easy, and this sector has nothing easy ". The businessman showed recently against compulsory gender quotas in the addresses of companies.
