Meliá Hotels International has assured on Tuesday that the situation is calm in the five hotels it operates in China, and that the economic impact on the company due to the outbreak of the coronavirus “will be very limited”
“Although it is still early to have a clear visibility of the evolution or duration of the established measures, the background in similar outbreaks points to a rapid reactivation of the activity in the event that the situation shows signs of remission,” said the hotel chain.
The outbreak in Wuhan has already caused 80 deaths, among the 2,744 infected diagnosed in the Asian country.
With regard to the activity of hotels and tourism in general in China, Meliá has indicated that it keeps its five hotels open and operational in the country, although it has admitted that because of the measures established by the Government, occupations are very small .
The hotel chain has indicated in a note, that at the moment its management focuses “on guaranteeing maximum safety” and the well-being of its customers and collaborators through continuous monitoring of the incidence of the crisis.
For this, the company said, it is aware of the news and recommendations published in this regard by the World Health Organization, and redirecting customers who request it to the regional health authorities.
Meliá Hotels International has explained that, as it has done before other similar outbreaks (SARS or MERS) that occurred years ago, it applies the recommended prevention measures, maintains permanent and close contact with the staff of its offices and hotels, and follows the instructions issued by the Health Authorities in the country.
