The ECB applies precautions for the coronavirus and restricts travel

The European Central Bank (ECB) will apply some "operational precautions" for the coronavirus and restricts the non-essential trips of the executive committee and other staff members until April 20.

The ECB reported today that it will also postpone the conferences at its headquarters, with the exception of the press conference following the monetary policy meeting of the governing council, in which the president, Christine Lagarde, and the vice president, Luis of Guindos.

It also suspends non-essential visits, including the group visit program.

The ECB executive committee approved these measures "as a precaution to protect its personnel from the risks associated with the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19".

"With today's measures we take steps to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, while maintaining a fully operational central bank and bank supervision function," said Lagarde.

These measures are based on internal guidelines that already exist in the ECB and on constant communication with the staff to whom they give advice on the virus, Lagarde added.
