Antomi Ramos / Gerard Rodríguez and Omayra Farías / Eva Fernández revalidated their titles of Spanish beach tennis champions in Gran Canaria at the Mapfre 2021 Spanish Beach Tennis Championship, which held its last day in Las Canteras yesterday.
Both couples add several national titles and in the case of Gran Canaria Antomi Ramos there are already 12 Spanish championships that he has. Ramos adds to the list the absolute individual title in this edition, which in the female category was won by the very young Canarian player Daniela Rodríguez, absolute champion at only 14 years old.
Antomi Ramos / Gerard Rodríguez achieved the absolute title after beating Víctor López / Saulo Tejada 6-0 and 6-3.
The women’s final wasted emotion and reproduces the 2020 edition. To win the title, Gran Canaria Omayra Farías and Eva Fernández had to overcome a first set against (2-6), win the second (6-3) and finally overcome Ganesha Díaz and Sabrina López in an epic tie-break that finished 10-7.
The nineteenth edition of the Mapfre Beach Tennis Championships of Spain has been organized by the ApProba Beach Tennis Club, in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), and the important support of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through the initiative Gran Canaria Isla del Deporte, as well as the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Government of the Canary Islands.
Canarian Daniela Rodríguez, who won the absolute table with 14 years, signed ‘double’
During four intense days, a total of 445 matches were played on the Las Canteras arena, in a championship that broke participation records.
The finals of the queen category have been the culmination of an intense day that began at 9:00 am on the sand of Las Canteras beach. Throughout the day, the semifinal matches of the senior category and the youth finals (under 14 and under 18) and veterans (+35 and +45) have been held.
Daniela Rodríguez, female absolute individual champion, doubled in this 2021 edition, winning this Sunday the title of champions of Spain under 18 with her partner Inés León.
Alvaro García / Iván Delgado win in the men’s sub 18 and in the sub 14 category the champions of Spain are Jorge Mendez / Nicolas Volpe, and María Gómez / Ana Gómez. The champions in the category over 35 are Jordi Rodríguez / Alex Casas and Ruth Mendoza / Eva Ducet. Alex Albors / Sergi Ventura and Carolina Miranda / Alejandra Porteiro are the third classified in the absolute category.
The sports director of the RFET, Javier Soler, present at the Las Canteras arena, highlighted “the involvement” that exists in Gran Canaria with beach tennis. The director of the RFET has had words of praise for the organization, also for the “very high” level of the participants in the camp and also highlighted the “atmosphere” that has been experienced these days in the sports complex installed on the beach of Las Quarries
Soler announced the creation of an absolute national championship for newly created autonomous communities that will be held on July 25, 26 and 27 in Benidorm.
