The DISA Foundation supports the little ones



The DISA Foundation begins the year 2021 with strength and all its energy, adapting its initiatives to the new times, creating new alliances with leading entities in the Canary Islands and new lines of support and projects that help them meet the needs caused and / or accentuated by Covid-19.

Support for minors

The well-being of the little ones has always been one of the main objectives for the Foundation, especially those who for different situations are part of vulnerable groups. Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has worked to implement different actions to minimize the effects of this crisis on minors, highlighting among many others, the delivery of tablets carried out in the same month of March in order to help reduce the existing digital divide in our islands.

And, according to the latest report published by the Unicef ​​Canary Islands Committee, prepared with the ULPGC and the ULL, two out of every five children living in the Canary Islands are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, which places the autonomous community at the head of child inequality in Spain. To this data, the experience and consequences of the confinement were added in the past year, with more and more entities and organizations, public and private, that warn about the need to take measures.

At the end of 2020, after intensive contact work with many entities that carry out their work in the front line of care, the DISA Foundation was able to identify needs related to the situation experienced in recent times. For this reason, last November it created an extraordinary line of aid to entities that serve minors at risk of social exclusion, focused on covering the emotional situation, their academic performance and adequate schooling.

95,000 euros for five projects that will benefit 25,000 people

Five projects were selected based on their direct link with the education, psychology and pedagogy of minors and their families. In addition, these organizations have demonstrated their solvency, budget viability, track record and scope. A total of 95,000 euros destined to carry out during this 2021 different actions that will benefit more than 2,500 people, between children and their closest environment.

Farrah Childhood Program “A Pie de Barrio”

– Farrah Foundation. (Gran Canaria)

Socio-educational support project in which families, specifically minors, are the protagonists of all actions, promoting community work that takes into account the immediate environment of the students, the context and enhances their sense of belonging to the neighborhood .

Present Footprints: Building the future

– Cane mojo. (Gran Canaria and La Palma)

Initiative created from the needs detected after confinement and suspension of face-to-face classes. Family workshops have been scheduled to work on different topics such as emotions, sexuality or time management. The minors will also have educational support days and financial aid for school supplies, COVID-19 prevention material and payments for network connections.

Argana feels of colors 2021

– Life is Zuaina. (Lanzarote)

Socio-educational intervention project aimed at children and young people in the Lanzarote neighborhood of Argana Alta. The minors attend workshops on emotional management, educational support, social action and participate actively in the cultural life of the area.

Social leadership

– International Cooperation Association. (Tenerife)

Classes for educational reinforcement, English, sports and cultural activities; through which minors develop personal and collective skills. It aims to train the character of vulnerable boys and girls in a situation of social exclusion who live in the San Andrés neighborhood, through educational reinforcement, sports activities and volunteering.

Academic and digital didactics boost in Protection Centers

– Don Bosco Salesianos Social Foundation. (Tenerife)

This project is aimed especially at minors sheltered in Protection Centers, offering school support activities designed from a comprehensive, integrative and complementary perspective. In addition, as a novelty, training actions on gender are incorporated.

Learning with Gara

– Gara Women’s Association. (La Gomera)

Socio-educational intervention workshops for the promotion of school success and the generation of inclusive free time spaces, which improve the educational and leisure alternatives of childhood through individualized attention with minors and family from the perspective of positive parenting.
