Pensioners who are part of the platform for the defense of the public pension system will demonstrate throughout Spain this Monday to denounce the gender gap of pensioners, as indicated this Friday at a press conference to present the mobilizations.
The new maternity pension supplement comes forward in Congress for the minimum and with many criticisms of the Government
From their point of view, most of the pensions of retired women are “bordering on precariousness”. “We go out every Monday, on the so-called Mondays in the Sun, to defend public pensions,” they added from the platform.
In addition, they believe that the Toledo Pact recommendations widen the gender gap instead of reducing it, so they have made it clear that they will continue to fight for their rights, “which has cost them so much to achieve.” The parties of the parliamentary arch last October closed an agreement for the reform of the public pension system, after more than four years of meetings, which was reflected in a report with a score of recommendations.
“They invented the Toledo Pact saying that it favored pensioners, but it was for the opposite, to privatize pensions,” as criticized the platform.
On February 18, the Government managed to carry out the decree that regulates the new maternity supplement to pensions. He did so with little advantage of votes and after a parliamentary debate full of reproaches to the Government. Criticism for the new supplement formula, which many groups attack for “cutting” the maternity bonus for mothers with more children and higher pensions, although it benefits those with lower incomes, but above all for having approved the measure through a real Decree-law, only after negotiating with social agents but without political debate and without analyzing it in the Toledo Pact commission.
