The deadline for Industry to present the first projects financed with European funds ends

Companies, organizations and ministries begin to move to materialize the distribution of money from the European Recovery Fund that will allow millionaire financing for different projects in Spain within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Spanish economy. European investment aims help overcome the economic crisis generated by the coronavirus pandemic and the recovery of employment as well as the modernization of the economy towards a more sustainable, digital and inclusive path. Spain will receive in total about 140,000 million euros from this fund, of which 72.7 billion will be given in direct aid.

In the field of industry, the Government has already unveiled its intention to promote modernization and productivity in this area by "digitizing the value chain, boosting productivity and the competitiveness of key strategic sectors in the ecological transition and digital transformation ', as recalled in a public document of the Ministry of the branch. Specifically, mention is made of the Program to Promote Industry Competitiveness and Sustainability tractor projects with a line of financing in the form of loans and grants to strategic projects for the industrial transition.

Thus, the so-called Manifestations of Interest (MDI) or the first requests "for possible large projects" must be submitted this January 20 as the last day within the period that was opened on December 10 in the Ministry of Industry. The minimum budget for each of the proposals is 40 million euros. After the analysis and evaluation of all the proposals received, Industry will be in charge of define the areas of interest for future calls for grants between the applications submitted.

Industry has not been the only ministry to open a project competition within the Recovery Plan. For his part, Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge It is also found in the process of seeking proposals -with term until next January 29- of expressions of interest on electric mobility. Within the so-called National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) it is expected to reach a penetration of 5 million electric vehicles by 2030.

Likewise, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation has launched the Digital Connectivity Plan, promoting cybersecurity and deployment of 5G in order to «identify projects to extend very high-speed broadband to the entire territory and advance 5G coverage promoting territorial cohesion and digital transformation, particularly in those geographic areas where there is a market failure. The deadline for submitting proposals is on February 15, 2021 at 23:55.

Seven FIAB projects

For example, companies of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB) have submitted to the Ministry of Industry a Manifesto of Interest (MDI) based on the so-called Recovery Plan and that includes a series of seven major projects to be financed with European funds in the period in the next three years. From FIAB they have advanced that the companies that will lead these projects are Acesur, Calidad Pascual, Central Lechera Asturiana, Cobadu, Congelados de Navarra, Eva Group, Foodiverse, Frit Ravich, Goikoa, Grefusa, Grupo Panstar, Idilia Foods, Nueva Pescanova and Zamora Company.

“Taking into account the characteristics and strategic importance of the sector, as well as the potential it has to generate a tractor effect, the food and beverage industry will respond to the challenges derived from the ecological and digital transitions, generating a lasting impact over time and contributing to economic, social and territorial cohesion ”, says Mauricio García de Quevedo, FIAB's general director.
