HI have made a psychological, visceral, emotional and intense journey through time. He has studied the present and discovered that it does not exist, that it escapes, that every moment is a gift and that every moment slips, that can be tied and untied. And he has embodied it in a deep and introspective choreography that pays homage to the here and now. After 9 years doing commissions, among which stands out the adaptation to the Spanish rural world of «Electra» with the National Ballet, Antonio Ruz returns to his company with «Present», which can be seen in the Teatros del Canal de Madrid from 19 to on October 21. "The work will have as many readings, as many past, as many present and as many future as people come to see it," he says.

-Bailarín or choreographer?

-I have been dancing since I was seven years old and I will be a dancer until I die. The dancers have a lot of body awareness and movement very integrated in our life, in the way we walk and look at the world.

-How do you look at the world?

-Moving. From beauty, rhythm, space, time …

-What is the bill for the passage of time?

-The aging, the deterioration, the decadence. But it also makes us mature and teaches us.

– What?

-A face life differently, to appreciate the moment. Every moment is a gift, although we do not always take advantage of them because we are disconnected from our body. When you mature you are aware that time is going faster and that we have to enjoy it.

-Every time we live faster. But the hours are still 60 minutes, just like 100 years ago …

-Yes, but the feeling that we always lack time is widespread.

– And how to gain time to time?

-It can not. You have to accept it.

– The present escapes?

-Yes.

– Can you tie?

-Yes, and untie.

– "Present" is past or future?

-The three things.

– When the present happens to be past?

– (Think) The concept is very ambiguous. The present does not exist. This is a work that makes many things question. The spectators must not understand, nor discover, nothing. They will travel through these dancers and all the scenic and scenic elements on a sensory and psychological level. No answers will be asked, only questions.

-For example?

-You'll wonder what those crazy people do doing those movements with those costumes. The public will be surprised because maybe they expect a more superficial work, but it is a very deep piece.

-When the future is present?

-The future does not exist either. In the work many winks are thrown to the here and now.

– Do you live in the present or in the present?

-I live as I can (laughs). In any case, the pieces that come out are quite autobiographical. Now I am doing a job to live the present, not to anticipate events that may occur.

-Well, there are those who only think about tomorrow …

-Exact. And that is the anxiety that the present creates for us. The future generates anguish and fear because we do not know it.

-You have investigated the present. For what?

-I have made that inner journey to improve as a person, to enjoy more and be happier. Discovering the present teaches us the beauty of the world.

-What do you think about when you dance?

-Lastly not hurting my left knee, I have been operated three times and I must be careful (laughs). Seriously, when we dance we do not think, or many thoughts intermingle at the same time. The dance has a lot of mental. It is a very cerebral and intellectual work that is behind every step and every movement.

-Where is more movement, in your body when you dance or in your head when you create the choreography?

-In my head.

– What politician would you dance to?

-To all. I would do a choreography in which there would be a lot of group listening, a piece in which everything was coordinated.

-Baila in your spare time?

-Overall, I sing baroque music, pop, jazz, flamenco … I am very versatile in my tastes.
