The Cuban Parliament approves the final draft of the new Constitution

The National Assembly of Cuba (unicameral Parliament) approved today, in plenary session, the final draft of the new Constitution, which will be submitted to a referendum on February 24.
The unanimous vote of the more than 600 deputies took place after a week of debates in which the changes made to the constitutional project were discussed, incorporated after a three-month referendum in which almost nine million Cuban residents and emigrants participated.
The final text, which seeks to update the current Magna Carta (1976), includes the term "communism" that had been eliminated in the first version, the approval of gay marriage differs and maintains the inclusion of recognition of private property and need for foreign investment.
