The autonomous communities endorse the new Government model for nursing homes. The Territorial Council of Social Services has given the green light this Tuesday to the agreement to improve the quality of residences and the Dependency Care System, in which the Ministry of Social Rights has been working for months. The text has gone ahead in a very tight way, with ten votes in favor and nine against, according to sources present at the meeting.
Nothing has changed in the residences two years and 32,000 deaths later
“Today I feel especially satisfied that we have achieved one of the most important agreements of this legislature. An agreement to improve the quality of residences and the entire Dependency Care System”, celebrated the Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra. Her department has been in talks with the autonomies for months to get her support.
In the last tip, celebrated a month ago, Ministry and regional governments did not reach an agreement. On this occasion, the refusal of regions governed by popular, socialist and Catalonia and Euskadi prevented the central government's flagship project for senior centers from being approved.
In these four weeks some autonomies have changed their position. Among them, the vote in favor of Extremadura and Asturias, governed by the PSOE, has been very relevant so that the agreement to improve the quality of residences and the Dependency Care System has obtained a very tight majority. Not all the socialist autonomies have supported the text, Castilla-La Mancha has maintained its refusal because "long-term financing is not guaranteed," point out sources from Emiliano García-Page's team, reports Carmen Bachiller.
