The CNMC is investigating Amazon and Apple for possible anti-competitive practices in online sales in our country. The body led by Cani Fernández has initiated a disciplinary proceedings against both groups for “possible anti-competitive practices in the sectors of the Internet sale of electronic products and the provision of marketing services to third-party retailers through online platforms ( Marketplace) in Spain ».
Specifically, Competencia deduces that after accessing certain information there are “rational indications” that both technology multinationals reached an agreement to place restrictions on the Amazon website. These bad practices would be related to the veto to third companies to sell Apple products. In addition, Amazon would have limited the advertising of those Apple competing products while benefiting the advertising campaigns of the company that Steve Jobs founded.
The regulatory body believes that these practices “could be restricting competition in the sectors of online sales of electronic products, and the provision of marketing services to third-party retailers through online platforms (Marketplace) in Spain.”
As of this moment, a maximum period of 18 months is opened for the CNMC to continue its investigation and give its final resolution.
