The Argentinian Antonio Mohamed will not continue as coach of the Celta Vigo, informed on Monday the entity that presides Carlos Mouriño through a press release the day after losing at home against Real Madrid, and adds that he will be replaced by Portuguese Miguel Cardoso.
"Antonio Mohamed and his coaching staff will not remain at the RC Celta once their disengagement from the Celtic entity has been agreed. Real Club Celta wishes to convey its sincere gratitude, both to the Argentine coach and his assistants Gustavo Lema, Julián Tartaglia, Carlos Massa, Claudio Kenny and Julio Hezze; for the dedication, professionalism and effort that they have shown during their time at RC Celta, "the statement said.
The celestial club wishes all of them "the greatest success" in the future both professionally and personally.
Mohamed arrived last summer to Balaidos endorsed by the president and maximum shareholder of the club, Carlos Mouriño, to replace Juan Carlos Unzué, in whom the board lost confidence at the end of last season due to the negative dynamics of the team.
But since his arrival the disagreements between the Argentine coach and the leaders were continuous. Mohamed asked to sign a goalkeeper and a striker and the sports management led by Felipe Miñambres, according to the general director Antonio Chaves, declined both options.
Mohamed's criticism of sports planning, "in the squad I do not have centering points, all go inward", caused great anger in the club, to the point that the leaders agreed to dispense with their services the week before the match against the Eibar.
However, the win of that day (4-0) delayed his dismissal until Monday, despite the fact that Mohamed and his collaborators already knew that they did not have the backing of the leaders, not even President Mouriño, his main supporter.
The Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso will be the substitute of Antonio Mohamed at the helm of Celta. The Portuguese coach, dismissed last October from Nantes, was one of the candidates to replace Juan Carlos Unzué last summer, but then the club's general manager, Antonio Chaves, rejected his signing after meeting him in Portugal.
Cardoso will be presented this Tuesday at 1:00 pm (12:00 GMT) in the Regio Hall of A Sede, and in the afternoon he will direct his first training in the sports facilities of A Madroa.
Before heading to Nantes, Cardoso had a successful stage in Rio Ave, with which he played the Europa League. He was second coach of Domingos Paciencia in Deportivo de la Coruña and Fonseca in Shakthar Donetsk, which Celta eliminated in the Europa League two seasons ago.
