The leadership of Augusto Hidalgo held a meeting this Friday to analyze the scenario of internal elections before the possible arrival of Darias
"Everyone welcomes delaying the primaries." With this sentiment, a meeting of the
executive of the Socialist Association of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with a single item on the agenda:
Primary Calendar.
And it is that the probable designation of the
Minister Carolina Darias as the head of the list
capital city hall forces to
delay internal process set according to the schedule set by the
federal committee of the PSOE.
The head of Health is the main name that is considered to try to maintain the
Town hall in socialist hands, but this decision right now depends on the
President of the Government and Secretary General of the party, Pedro Sánchez.
Waiting for that announcement to arrive, the socialists of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have raised a
delay of the primary process and wait for
alternative calendarwhich establishes the presentation of candidatures at the end of
november.
In this way, time is given for a possible appointment of Darias to head this agenda and
to leave the Ministry. If this circumstance does not finally occur, internal elections will be held to appoint the person who, on behalf of the Socialist Party, chooses to continue as head of the City Council.
Consensus
The approach of the local executive will now pass to the
regional management led by Ángel Víctor Torres and, in principle, there will be no problems because
there is consensus on this.
Although a large part of the PSOE considers the option of Carolina Darias to be a good option for the capital city council, there are already
other militants who have expressed their willingness to come forward, such as the
councilwoman Immaculate Medinawhich has even summoned representatives of the organization to assess its support and possibilities, as well as the
Councilor for Social Rights of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Isabel Mena.
The presence in this contest of the
Minister of Employment, Knowledge and Economy, Elena Máñez.
Party sources insist that
"there are candidates"and, therefore, the delay of the primaries would make no more sense than to wait for the decision to be adopted on the Minister of Health and her return to municipal politics.
Other municipalities
On the other hand, the possibility of delaying the primaries is also contemplated for other municipalities on the island -
Telde, Santa Lucía or San Bartolomé de Tirajana- in which agreements were reached prior to the celebration of the socialist congress of Gran Canaria between the sectors of the insular secretary,
Sebastian Franquisand the head of the local group of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and still unofficial candidate for the Cabildo de Gran Canaria,
August Hidalgo.
The federal committee opened the primary process on July 23 and established a
first calendar which sets the date of
nominations the
September 19 and 20.
However, it contemplates the possibility that these dates be delayed "for political or organic reasons" until the
second half of November. The proclamation of candidacies would take place at the end of that month.
