The new air transport tax that the Government plans to implement will not affect flights to the Canary Islands, which will be exempted from that fee, said the Ministry of Finance.
In a letter sent to the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, which he publishes on his Twitter account, the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, ensures that the new taxation for kerosene will not apply to the Canary Islands, because “it is necessary provide differential treatment to the islands. “
Montero affirms that the Government has “the unequivocal will” to exclude the islands from the new tax and that the ministry already referred to it when mentioning “the insular fact” in its scope.
The minister emphasizes that the Government’s commitment to the Canary Islands was evident with the 75 percent increase in the air ticket subsidy to Canarian residents.
Montero expresses in his letter the commitment made verbally with Torres, after he requested a written confirmation because the text on the new tax does not mention the islands.
Nueva Canarias announced that, in the event that the archipelago is not excluded from the new air transport tax, its support for the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, would be reconsidered.
