The Canary Islands Music Awards honor María Mérida and María Isabel Torón

The Professional Association of Composers of the Canary Islands, which brings together a score of creators from the islands, awards in the third edition of the Canary Islands Music Awards 2021 the Honor Award for Canarian Music and the Best Work in Classical Music Herreña soloist María Mérida and the singer and teacher from Gran Canaria María Isabel Torón, respectively.
Both awards will be presented on June 5 during a gala that will take place in the Miller building in the capital of Gran Canaria, where the rest of the prizes in the different categories will also be presented.
The recognition to María Mérida, who will be 96 years old on June 5, is granted for her extensive artistic career of a lifetime dedicated to the dissemination of the music of the Canary Islands inside and outside the Islands. The Gran Canaria María Isabel Torón will receive her award for her outstanding work in the creation, teaching, interpretation, dissemination or study of classical music in the Canary Islands.
On May 24, the jury of the Canary Islands Music Awards will advance the final name of those selected in each of the fourteen categories of the third call, which this year has received a total of 374 entries, 62 more than in the Last edition. The call for the Canary Islands Music Awards has the co-production of Canarias Radio Autonómica and the sponsorship of the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
