The Canary Islands add 90 deaths this month, 19 more than in December 2020



The Archipelago has added in the course of this month 90 deaths linked to coronavirus, 19 more than in December of last year, which closed with 71. And is that Yesterday, the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands notified, for the second consecutive day, seven new deaths associated with the pathogen: four in Tenerife, two in Gran Canaria and one in Fuerteventura. The deceased were between 69 and 94 years old. With all this, we still need to know the latest data today, this month has become the third with the most deaths of the year, behind August (109) and January (113). During 2021 there have been 718 deaths, which shows an increase of 74.7% compared to 2020, which ended with 411.

Taking into account the figures reported by the health administration, on December 30, 2020, there were 6,169 patients suffering from SARS-CoV-2 infection in the Islands, of which 312 were fighting the microorganism in the plant and 47 in the areas of critics. Now, despite the fact that the number of active persons rose to 41,059 this Thursday, the number of patients who occupy an acute care bed has only increased by 12% compared to the same period last year -it is 350-, while the one corresponding to intensive occupation has increased by 42.6% -that is 67-.

On the last day, the autonomous community added 5,261 Covid-19 infections, which represents a new daily record for the region. By islands, Tenerife added 2,889 clinical pictures; Gran Canaria 1,706; Lanzarote 322; Fuerteventura 126; La Palma 158; La Gomera 22; and El Hierro 37.

Increase in deaths

  • Taking into account the data notified by the Ministry of Health, in the course of 2021 there have been 718 deaths associated with Covid, 75% more than in 2020.

Tenerife continues to be the island with the highest number of positives, with 23,715 –2,166 more than in the previous 24 hours–. Gran Canaria follows, with 12,470 –1,490 more–; Fuerteventura, with 2,093 –899 more–; Lanzarote, with 1,674 - a score less -; La Palma, with 674 –135 more–; La Gomera, with 293 –12 more–; and El Hierro, with 136 –29 more–.

Since the last count, 1,159 epidemiological discharges have been issued, so 106,855 patients have already managed to overcome the disease in the Canary Islands, that is, 71.7% of the total diagnosed (149,046).

So far, professionals have performed 2,733,656 diagnostic tests, of which 20,735 were performed on Wednesday –757 less than on Tuesday–. Only in the course of seven days, 24,708 positive samples have been detected out of a total of 111,468.

The Ministry recalls that the vaccination points and the spaces enabled to access the compounds without prior appointment will continue to be active today and tomorrow. It must be said that walk-in inoculation is still open for boys and girls between 5 and 11 years old, for people over 50 vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna, as well as those vaccinated with Janssen or AstraZeneca who have to receive the booster dose, regardless of the age group to which they belong. Health also includes in the list those inhabitants who have not yet accessed prophylaxis.

While waiting to know the latest progress in the campaign, and based on the data corresponding to the close of the day on Tuesday, the nurses of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) had already managed to administer 3,739,741 doses of the sera, which has made it possible to immunize 1,687,998 people, 80.47% of the target population of the Archipelago.

More than two million certificates issued

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands had issued, until December 22, a total of 2,312,001 Covid certificates, of which 1,979,192 correspond to certificates of having received the vaccine, 308,663 having had a negative diagnostic test performed in the previous 72 hours, and the remaining 25,136 with having overcome the disease in the last six months. The implementation of this document in the Islands was ratified by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), under the modality of compulsory use, for all sectors that are subject to capacity or schedule restrictions on the islands that are at levels alert 3 and 4. The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has enabled the mobile application and the web at www.miCertificadocovid.com so that anyone already vaccinated, with one or two doses, or with the booster, can access , save and print your certificate.
