The Canary writer Fernando Delgado has won the prestigious Valencian Literary Criticism Prize 2020 in the Poetry category for his book The naked sea. Accompanying him as winners are the writers Isabel Burdiel, Elisa Ferrer and the brothers Josep Lluís and Rodolf Sirera in the modalities of Essay and Criticism, Poetry, Narrative and Dramatic Literature, respectively. The Poetry jury highlighted the “remarkable quality” of the seven candidate poems in this edition and recalled the recently deceased Valencian poet Alfonso López Gradolí and all the writers who disappeared during the last year.
Fernando Delgado, a regular contributor to the newspapers of the Prensa Ibérica group, to which LA PROVINCIA / DIARIO DE LAS PALMAS belong, has been awarded a book whose subject matter contains extensive Canarian resonances.
The 2020 award in this category has gone to the well-known author from Tenerife, although the jury has also valued the proposals Get home José Iniesta and The owner of failure by Ramón Bascuñana. The naked seaAccording to the jury, it represents “the maturity of a writer who is very complete and diverse at the same time, and who in this case shows us all his skill and mastery through elaborate and powerful verses, with a great rhythm and sonorous musicality” . “The poet has known how to combine in this book the maximum requirement in experimentation with absolute rigor and expressive containment,” they added.
The awards ceremony will be carried out, as usual, on the last Saturday of September, as long as the sanitary conditions generated by the Covid-19 allow it. The Awards are organized by the Valencian Association of Writers and Literary Critics (Clave) and are sponsored and sponsored by the Rocafort City Council, with the support of the Generalitat.
