The five new short films selected for the new catalog Canary Islands in Corto, the program for the promotion and national and international diffusion of the best works in this format that are made by the island filmmakers, is presented this Thursday, January 31, in the Guiniguada Theater. The catalog this year celebrates its thirteenth edition and, throughout its career, has contributed to that about 90 films enter the national and international circuit, with presence in important festivals and calls where many of them have been awarded.
The works selected for this new edition are 300 All inclusive, by Pablo Fajardo; Soju, by Rafael Navarro; Tariq, by Erzin Cilesiz; 20 years is a lot, by Daniel Mendoza and Burn the ships, by Macu Machín.
Aurora Moreno, general director of the Government of the Canary Islands, said that the existence of this program "has made the work of our filmmakers gain notoriety and that can be recognized and valued by programmers from festivals around the world and by cultural institutions, such as Cervantes and the Filmoteca de Exteriores, among others ". He stressed that this year they will take the shorts to the Huesca Festival, which is a gateway to the Oscars.
The Canarian public will have the opportunity to see these new works during the sessions that will take place on Thursday, January 31, at the Teatro Guiniguada, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the following Thursday, February 8, at the Aguere Cultural Space of La Laguna, in Tenerife. Both projections are open access and will start at 8:00 p.m. The presentation will also include the presence of the filmmakers who sign these short films and who will be the protagonists of a conversation with the public.
It should be remembered that, through Canary Islands in Corto, the Government selects annually, and through public announcement, up to a maximum of seven short films that have been made in the previous year and that go on to represent Canarias in the most important national and international festivals in this format. Its distribution is currently entrusted to the specialized company Digital 104. Jonay García, representative of the company, highlighted the high level of the jury "which has resulted in a very high level of demand when issuing ratings on shorts".
