The Cabildo fires Christian Roig Puig, manager of the Philharmonic

Roig, a former Valencian violinist, assumed the management of the Philharmonic last September 2020 when he became the winner, among seven other candidates, of the Public tender promoted by the Executive Commission of the OFGC. His contract extended for four years, with the possibility of extension at the end of this by agreement of the parties within said period or resolved by the causes provided with the mandatory notice and establishing a trial period of six months.

Likewise, both the manager and the head of production of the aforementioned cultural institution, Isabel Turienzo, and one of the musicians on the staff, denounced last year for workplace harassment Karel mark chichon, which in turn is currently facing an investigation process for alleged irregularities of unjustified expenses and hiring of backup musicians for one million euros.

In addition, Roig sued Morales on February 25 for workplace harassment, moral integrity, right to honor and image, which corresponds to an extension of the lawsuit launched at the end of October 2020 against Chichon and the Foundation.

Resignations

On the day that Roig presented the lawsuit against Morales before the Social Court number one of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Councilor for Culture of the Cabildo, Guacimara Medina, and the first vice president of the institution, Miguel Ángel Pérez, both from the PSOE, will resign their positions in the OFGC Foundation due to their successive discrepancies with Morales regarding the measures to be adopted in the situation of complaints against Chichon. From both resignations, whose vacancies remain unfilled since then, the nationalist went on to hold the presidency of the Philharmonic.

On the other hand, when Roig's trial period as manager ended on March 1, Morales guaranteed his continuity in office, as he publicly expressed during a press conference for the 8M events. "When a person has a contract, he passes a trial period and from there the contract period continues," he stated, although a few months before, in November 2020, he had hinted that Roig would be fired at the end of said trial period. , due to "doubts" in their hiring procedure.

However, the spokesman for Ciudadanos, Ruymán Santana, has denounced "the beginning of a purge" within the Philharmonic after the dismissal of Roig "After the resignation of the PSOE to his responsibilities at the head of the OFGC and the arrival of Antonio Morales to the presidency of the board of trustees, we had warned of what was going to happen ", explains Santana, in clear reference to the dismissal of Roig, who, after passing a selection process -a public tender that overcame several claims- and the trial period the management, "was already indicated by Morales himself in a plenary session, in which he advanced what is now a fact, his dismissal."

In his opinion, the decision to dismiss Roig “once again leaves all power in the hands of the artistic director, and we have all seen what happens when there has been no manager in this foundation; an accumulation of irregularities that from Cs we have denounced and of which we still do not know anything, including the hiring of the Gibraltarian director himself ”, he declared.

Regarding the profile of the former manager, Roig has a higher degree in violin from the Superior Conservatory of Music of Madrid and a master's degree in Cultural Management from the University of Alcalá de Henares. In addition, he has been manager of the Verum Symphony Orchestra and has assiduously collaborated with some of the most prestigious Spanish orchestras, such as the Orquesta Nacional de España or the Orquesta de Radio Televisión Española.
