The BSM and the IIVEE create the chair Economy, Business and Thought to promote the Mediterranean Arc



The BSM-University Pompeu Fabra and IIVEE (Ignasi Villalonga Institute of Economics and Business) have created the Chair of Economy, Business and Thought with the objective of carrying out studies of economy and business of EURAM, Euroregion of the Mediterranean Arcor, that allow knowing the factors that can boost their competitiveness and transfer the reflections to the main interest groups.

The area of EURAM is a large economic region in Europe with a strong business fabric, which accounts for 40% of exports and industrial production that is generated annually in Spain. It is a territory with a very important economic weight since the Spanish part represents around 37% of the total GDP of Spain.





The agreement between the BSM and the IIVEE was signed on Friday by the rector of the UPF, Jaume Casals, and the president of IIVEE, Antoni Serra Ramoneda.

The Chair, says the BSM on its website, should allow monitoring of the economic-financial health of the territory and the business fabric of the Euroregion and identify opportunities that promote its development and its sustainability.

The first studies that will be carried out include a diagnosis of the capacity of the EURAM territories to generate welfare for the population and detect opportunities for improvement in both public policies and business initiatives.

The Chair will also analyze transcendental issues of the economy such as the state of infrastructures (railways and roads), the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution (internet, Big Data, 3D printing, drones, Artificial Intelligence …) or tourism growth and its impact on the environment and society. The Chair of Economics, Business and Thought will last for three years and its director will be Salvador Estapé, professor at the BSM-Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
