18.28% of coronavirus cases analyzed by genome sequencing in the Canary Islands correspond to the British variant. This is stated in the latest update of the Report on the epidemiological situation of variant B.1.1.7 of SARS-CoV-2 and other variants of interest, which indicates that this strain, the main one under the scrutiny of the Ministry of Health, it is already present in all the autonomous communities, in some of which it accounts for 90% of the cases. At the same time, new infections from others continue to be detected in the country, such as the Californian, which already has 25 positives, or the Portuguese, of which the first has been confirmed.
B.1.351 (the South African), of which 55 cases have been detected, and P.1 (the Brazilian), of which there are 15, are also maintained as variants of interest for Public Health (VOC).
The Center for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies supervises seven others: B.1.429 (Californian); P.2 (Rio de Janeiro); B.1.525 (Nigerian) and C.16 (Portuguese), of which Spain has confirmed 25, 15, six and one case, respectively.

The increase in the number of patients with a serious condition has unleashed criticism in Fuerteventura where the deputy of the Canary Coalition, Mario Cabrera, yesterday denounced the “collapse” that this area has suffered in the General Hospital of the island since last week, having to refer those affected to “other services of the center, such as resuscitation or emergencies”.
