The British economy had zero growth in the three months until July

The economy of the United Kingdom showed a growth of zero percent in the three months to last July, although it advanced an unexpected 0.3% in that month, the National Statistics Office (ONS) reported Monday.

The ONS said that the services sector was the only one that expanded between May and July 2019, with an increase of 0.2%, but manufacturing and construction fell.

The growth in July fuels the hope that the United Kingdom will not fall into a technical recession in the third quarter of the year, after having registered a decrease in gross domestic product (GDP) of 0.2% in the second.

The chief economist of the ONS, Rob Kent-Smith, warned, however, that despite its progress in July, "the services sector remains weak in 2019".

In addition to the data released today, which pay attention to the behavior of the economy in July, the ONS will offer in November the preliminary calculation of GDP growth in the third quarter of 2019, from July to September.
