The task has been assigned to the ship Ángeles Alvariño, which is registered in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and which is currently carrying out tasks of the Institute of Oceanography off the coast of Lisbon, in Portugal, so it is not yet known to It is certain when it will arrive on the island, according to sources consulted by Europa Press.
The incorporation of this vessel to the search for Anna, Olivia and Tomás Gimeno was announced on May 17 by the general director of the Civil Guard, María Gámez, who indicated that they were in talks with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography to be able to count on their means of tracking.
In this sense, Ángeles Alvariño has a side scan sonar, a device that uses the propagation of sound under water to obtain digital images of the surface of the seabed. The acoustic signals emitted bounce off the background creating an image of it. Its most common applications include detailed mapping of communities on the seabed, locating pipes, viaducts or cables, searching for objects or submerged archaeological sites, among other structures of interest.
Despite the tasks of locating them at sea, the mother of the girls trusts that the three are still alive
The ship is also equipped with an underwater robot, the ROV Liropus 2000, owned by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, capable of recovering objects in the sea up to 2,000 meters deep.
Once it joins the search device, Ángeles Alvariño plans to trace, at least, the bottom of the journey that the girls’ father was able to make in his boat Esquilón, between the Marina Tenerife marina, next to the Dársena Pesquera, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the waters located in front of El Puertito de Güímar. In a straight line there is a distance of 37 kilometers between both points. It should be remembered that at 5:40 p.m. on April 28, the six-meter long boat Sea Rae de Gimeno appeared adrift and empty, a mile away from the aforementioned enclave of the Güímar Valley.
In that strip, it will make an X-ray of the seabed with sonar to try to identify any foreign object and, if possible, then raise it to the surface with the underwater robot. In addition to detecting any foreign object that sonar can detect, the robot includes a camera that allows images to be captured of what exists in the background, as well as special tweezers to collect whatever is of interest.
As is well known since April 29, the search in the sea for evidence that may provide information on the whereabouts of the girls and their father is faced because the last time the Tenerife businessman was seen was at 00:30 hours of April 28, when he left for the last time and without known direction in his boat. Tomás got on at Esquilón, which was moored at the «A» jetty of Marina Tenerife, and after traveling barely twenty meters, he was already outside the protection dike of said marina and the Fishing Dock.
The girlfriend denies the box
Faced with the information that has emerged in recent days, Tomás Gimeno’s girlfriend at the time of disappearing denied yesterday that, on the afternoon of April 27, she received a closed box in which there were about 3,000 euros and with a message from Tomy, who asked him not to open it until after midnight.
This was announced yesterday by the program Juntos, from the regional network Telemadrid. Through a couple of messages, the woman affirms: «I work with children and I cannot say anything. I have not received any box with money from Tomás. It is not true and it is information that is doing me a lot of damage. I am very upset with everything the media is putting out. The Civil Guard searched the center where I work one day after I disappeared, not because they thought I was here, but because I was related to him.
The girlfriend of the Tenerife businessman now disappeared and with an international search warrant acknowledges that: «Yes, I was with him at the time he disappeared. We were together. I’ve known him for four years. I’m fatal … fatal. Everything that has happened hurts me a lot. I have to pass every day in front of many people who know me. I have my life and I am very upset about everything. I have had a lot of problems because of this. I just want to disappear, just like he has done.
Tomás’s girlfriend: “No box with money came to me and it’s information that hurts me”
Meanwhile, the girls’ mother, Beatriz Zimmermann, and those around her maintain the hypothesis that Tomás Gimeno, Olivia and Anna fled and are hiding somewhere.
For this, they are based on Tomy’s comments the night he disappeared, in the line that he was going to go away and take good care of the minors, as well as on the character of the man wanted internationally.
The Civil Guard agents continue with the investigations to try to find out what happened to Tomás, Olivia and Anna.
