The Minister of Culture of Castilla y León, Javier Ortega, has indicated this Wednesday that the forecast he is running at the moment is that the International Festival of Arts of Castilla y León (Fàcyl) in Salamanca -which this year was going to be held by first time in the fall months- become an online festival.
“Neither to sell castles in the air, nor to say something that later cannot be fulfilled. We understand that this is how the Fácyl will be this year,” said the Minister of Culture at a telematic press conference on Wednesday.
And he insisted: “if the situation allows us, we would like, as it could not be otherwise, that it was in person, live, but based on what there is right now, we think that it will be an online festival just as they are doing other festivals. “
The director has indicated that this is the most sensible position because the Board cannot “risk”.
On the other hand, regarding the Ávila International Circus Festival, which is usually held at the end of August, the counselor has indicated that they are still evaluating what to do but has indicated that, perhaps, due to the closeness of time, it may not be possible be celebrated.
“We are trying to exhaust the deadlines, as other festivals are also doing,” said the councilor.
In the case of the Castilla y León Theater Fair in Ciudad Rodrigo (Salamanca), scheduled for the end of August, and the Sonorama Ribera de Aranda de Duero (Burgos) planned for the bridge on August 15, the counselor has indicated that They are festivals launched by private promoters who have financial support from the Board and, therefore, it is those promoters who must decide whether or not to cancel it.
“It is an extraordinary situation that none of us would have liked to live, but we will see depending on how events unfold and, above all, the conditions and criteria that the government sets,” said the counselor.
In a similar situation is the season of the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center in Valladolid, whose programming is prepared but it is not yet known if it can be carried out.
On the other hand, in the context of the Culture Reactivation Plan that is being implemented by the Ministry to alleviate the situation caused by the crisis, a fund has been created for aid to Community festivals for the period 2020-2021, endowed with with more than one million euros for both annuities, whose award will be based on objectivity, transparency, equality, non-discrimination and advertising criteria.
The Board will support entities and groups that promote music festivals, performing arts, creation and production in the fields of cinema and television, visual arts and new technologies in the culture and literature sector.
The purpose of the aid is to establish a channel of support for those cultural projects consisting of the celebration of festivals and activities related to these projects, held in Castilla y León, that contribute to the improvement of the cultural and social life of the Community and that integrate a series of quality aspects in its organization and development.
