The best of Spanish cinema will reach remote places in Colombia

A selection of Spanish films that have marked the direction of the cinematography of that country will travel through 22 municipalities of Colombia and fill the squares of hidden villages and even the deck of a ship with the magic of cinema, on the occasion of the eighth Spanish Film Show .

The strongest followers of Spanish cinematography can enjoy the frames of "Pa Negre" (2010), by Agustí Villaronga, or recent films such as "El Cuadro" (2019), by Andrés Sanz, between March 19 and April 8 in the exhibition entitled this year "Exploring New Spaces".

The films will be screened in Bogotá but also in cities like Tumaco, in the department of Nariño (border with Ecuador), or in Quibdó, capital of Chocó (west).

"It is a baby born eight years ago and we wanted to grow it reaching more than 22 cities, where we will project in town squares or even in a boat in the town of Guatapé," said the cultural advisor of the embassy of Spain in Colombia, Juan Pedro Pérez-Gómez, in the presentation of the exhibition this Thursday in Bogotá.

The project wants to "defend Spanish, Latin American and European cinema against large distributors" in countries like the United States, he added.

The curator of the show, Alicia Martínez, explained that with the section "Opening New Paths" we bet on "a look towards the present of the cinema" with author titles such as "Mother" or "O que Arde", the latter with its "Renewal, alternative and from the margins tries to reach the heart".

"O Que Arde" won two awards at the Goya 2020 Awards and is part of the set of award-winning films that Colombians can see in the show.

On the other hand, the "Leaving Footprint" section will recover several iconic titles of Spanish cinema and will pay tribute to the recently deceased Spanish filmmaker José Luis Cuerda with the screening of "The language of the butterflies".

Documentaries such as "El Cuadro" by Andrés Sanz, "U-Topos" by Vicente Pérez Herrero or "La Agencia" by Efe are part of "Docupensando".

With "Cortos del Pacífico", the show will give a quota to the emerging Colombian cinematography by "Historias en Kilometros", a laboratory of audiovisual narration with social impact.

The cultural advisor of the Embassy announced that this year they will have the artistic project "Celeste", by Solimán López, who will digitally map the skies of Colombia and Spain and praised the pedagogical work of the exhibition with the talks and film workshops he organizes.

The film show is one of the main events of the Cultural Department of the Embassy of Spain in Colombia and groups other titles such as "El Sur", "Thesis", "Martín (Hache)", "I give you my eyes", " The method "," Obaba "," 18 meals "," Pa negre "," 10,000 km "," Loreak "and" Handía ".

Among the new cities that the films will show are Armenia, Montería, Quibdó, Tumaco, Arbeláez and Granada.

The other cities that will participate in the exhibition are Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Pereira, Manizales, Santa Fe de Antioquia, Neiva, Villa de Leyva, Pasto, Riohacha, Guatapé and Fusagasugá.
